FAQ

These are the most frequently asked questions we receive from our clients. Of course, if your question is not found below, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

  • Why should I book India Rose Strings?…Because we offer more than any other string quartet out there!

With a regular quartet, it’s impossible to add vocals to your wedding music unless you pay a large, additional fee for a singer to join them, and even then, you’re getting someone the quartet may never have worked with! Our singer will already there with you as the cellist of the ensemble and she can even play and sing at the same time. With vocals and a string quartet, the arrangement for your special song will be unique and moving, and will certainly add the wow-factor to your day.
You want musicians who care what they look like, who don’t tuck Starbucks coffee cups next to their chair hoping nobody will notice – believe us, we’ve seen it!
We offer flawless image, friendly, professional musicians, and incredible music.

Impress your guests – book us today!

Which should I book – a quartet, trio or one of the duos?

If you have the space, opt for the quartet. A quartet has a much more resonant sound than a trio or duo, offering richer harmonies and more volume over background noise. Most classical music (e.g. Mozart and Haydn) and pop arrangements are for string quartet, not trio, but we can arrange most pieces for the latter upon request. A duo is more limiting, but good news if you have restricted space or a tight budget.
If there is a special song you’ve chosen especially because you love the lyrics, Chloe, our cellist and singer can add the vocals for you. We just need some notice to arrange the piece for the given ensemble. Get in touch to find out what we can do for you.

Can you match our colour scheme?

Yes! We are happy to blend in with your colour scheme as much as we possibly can and require at least 4 weeks’ notice to make arrangements. We can cater for most colour schemes, but please note that some additional fees may apply where suitable attire must be sought.

Can you match our event theme?

Yes! From medieval banquets to Halloween parties, we are happy to dress to suit the theme of your event. You may need to discuss this with us well in advance of the event so that we can make arrangements and it is likely that some additional fees may apply. While we are happy to match our wardrobe to the theme, please be aware that the costume must not inhibit our performance! We are happy to advise you.

    Can you do requests?

Yes! You will see from our repertoire list that we cover a wide range of genres and moods to suit every occasion. However, if you don’t see what you’re looking for on the list, please contact us. Providing we have enough notice, we would be delighted to arrange a bespoke piece for your special moment. Depending on the song choice and arrangement requirements, a small fee may be chargeable for this service.

Can you work with a singer?

Yes! Our cellist, Chloe, is also a singer and so our arrangements can include vocals upon request. Please bear in mind that if you wish to add vocals to a song, we will need some notice to arrange the piece for the ensemble.
If you are planning a surprise song in which you are the singer, we’re happy to help. We will communicate with you prior to the event to arrange the music and check we can perform it well for you, and then you will need to extend our booking time on the day to enable a short rehearsal. We will be able to advise as to how much extra time will be needed once we have the details of the arrangement.

How long can you play for?

How long do you want us?! We love to play our music and will rehearse for hours in preparation for your special day. However, playing is very physical and to keep our hands and bodies in good order we will need to take a 20min break for every 2 hours we perform. We strive to create a relaxing atmosphere and would hate for it to be broken at the wrong moment, so we will work with you to find the best timing for this break.

    How far will you travel?

To keep things simple, we do not charge travel expenses within a 20 mile radius of Leeds City Centre. We will happily travel anywhere beyond this, including internationally, but will need to charge a fee to cover our expenses.

    How much do you charge?

We don’t publish our fees online because each booking has unique requirements. We want to give you the best value for money and providing a tailored quote allows us to offer you the best price possible when you contact us.

Do we need to feed you?

If we are required at your venue for more than a few hours or we are travelling a fair distance to be with you, a little something is always appreciated. Some clients have been so kind as to invite us to partake of their buffet or arrange a sandwich from the kitchen for us. We are happy to eat anything you can offer, but please note that one of us is allergic to blue cheese and mushrooms.

If you would kindly provide each of us with a glass of water throughout the day, it would be greatly appreciated.

How much space do you need?

One of the benefits of hiring India Rose Strings is that we can adapt our ensemble to suit the space available. While a quartet offers a full sound, a trio or duo require less space. A quartet will need 3m x 3m and a duo can fit into a space just 2.5m x 1.6m but we may need just a little more if amplification is required. Try to make sure nobody will be seated or stood too close to us; our bows will be moving and getting poked becomes a distinct possibility. Similarly, our instruments are very expensive and fragile, so it’s best to keep children and any highly enthusiastic dancers at a sensible distance!

Can you change venue between a wedding ceremony and reception?

Yes! We are happy to travel between venues to provide more delightful music for you! Please note that a fee may be applicable to cover our expenses.

    What equipment do you need?

We require one chair each of standard height and with no arms. We bring our own music stands. For smaller venues, we tend not to need any amplification but we are able to bring a small PA system with us for larger rooms. Should your venue be very large, we are happy to ‘plug in’ to the venue’s PA system where available, or it may be necessary to source large PA equipment, which will incur a fee.

    Can you play outside?

Yes! We are happy to play outside if the weather is fine. However, if it is very sunny or if there is a chance of rain, we will need to play under cover to protect our instruments. If the weather is very poor we will need to be stationed inside your venue. Please note that our instruments are sensitive and can need re-tuning on a particularly hot or chilly day. On these occasions they are best kept indoors to ensure consistently beautiful music!

Do you hold Public Liability Insurance?

Yes, we do! We are insured to a value of £10 million so you and your venue can rest assured. We are happy to send you proof upon request.
